Jameh Mosque of Sabzevar is one of the oldest mosques in Sabzevar, built during the Sarbadars period.[1][2][3]
Characteristics of the Building
The Sabzevar Grand Mosque with an area of about four thousand square meters includes the qibla, north, courtyard, hall and porch on the southern side of Beyhaq Street in this city. On the southern side of the qibla iwan is the mihrab and above it is an inscription dated 1292 AH. At the top of this iwan, two brick minarets can be seen. On both sides of this section, halls with high vaulted domes were created at the same time as the construction of the southern iwan. In the eastern hallway of the northern iwan of the mosque, there are inscriptions in the form of stone inscriptions from the Safavid period with dates of 979 and 1136 AH regarding the observance of the people of Sabzevar and an order from Shah Tahmasb Safavi. The main decorations of the Sabzevar Grand Mosque are seven-color tiles and brick tiling. This building shows the architectural features of the eighth century AH.
Reconstruction of the Portal
During Reza Shah's reign, the portal of this mosque was demolished after some changes in the structure of the city and Beyhaq Street, and then reconstructed by Seyed Mohammad Ashrafi, one of the city's architects.
